Pipes

While naming ceremony gifts are not always pipes, pipes are a large part of Ojibwe material culture. Tobacco is sacred, and thus pipes play an important role in many traditions and ceremonies (Angel 2002; 39). Above is a photo the pipe Jeremy Lien has been working on for his naming ceremony. Below are historical photos taken at the Bois Forte Band's Reservation in the early 1900s, all of which feature pipes.
